Gioia DeSimone is a 2003 graduate of the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester, Massachusetts. She is licensed in Rhode Island, Nationally Certified in Therapuetic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB) and also a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA.)
Gioia has also been operating her own private massage therapy practice, Rejuvenating Touch Massage Therapy, in Warwick, RI. Her practice involves helping clients with numerous complaints, ranging from chronic back and spinal disc problems to sports-related injuries, surgery rehabilitation along with the common repetitive muscle strains of daily life. She always focuses on the needs and desires of her clients and her preference is to apply slow, deep, specific strokes, including mostly myofascial-release techniques.
Gioia has completed a training with Tom Myers in structural integration through Kinesis in December 2008. This type of bodywork, which is based ion the pioneering work of Ida Rolf, focuses to resolve particular problems, as a “tonic” for your posture, movement, and what used to be called “carriage” – how you carry yourself through the world. The KMI approach is to free the binding and shortening in the connective tissues and re-educate the body in efficient and energy-sustaining (as opposed to energy-robbing) patterns.
“I believe the KMI training program helped me gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy and physiology, and taught me new efficient techniques to provide long term relief, ease of movement, and a heightened sense of self-awareness. As our society becomes more sedentary and distracted by the demands of everyday life, there is an increasing pressure for modern medicine to provide an immediate “fix” for many physical problems via prescription medication and/or surgery. Many of these problems could be prevented with this type of less intrusive bodywork. Through KMI, I help my clients understand their bodies and discover as well as maintain a healthier, happier life.”
